Anticipation

As Pamela approached her due date...37, 38, 39 weeks, we became more and more impatient for little Abigail's arrival. Especially as it became more and more difficult for Pam to walk, move, sleep, eat, and otherwise carry on everyday life. She continued to work to make the time pass more quickly, organizing & administrating for agents at Glad Heart Realty, cleaning apartments at IHOP, and teaching piano lessons. Finally, on the 22nd, Pam taught her last lesson before officially beginning maternity leave, 3 days before Abigail was due. The next day was spent running around shopping for last-minute baby items at garage sales, despite minor contractions that hit while she was driving. Saturday night we watched a movie together, only slightly interrupted by an occasional squeeze of Chris's hand as Pam experienced a contraction. We knew the time was soon. Abby's diaper bag had been packed for days, and Pam's bag was mostly prepared, with a list of last-minute items to pack resting on top. After catching up on laundry, getting the apartment in some semblance of order, and making the baby's bed, there was nothing to do but wait. Pam had felt the Lord tell her that the baby would not be late, but we began to wonder slightly as we approached the 40-week mark, but trusted God knew the perfect timing for our little one to arrive.
